Özet:

One of today’s most popular multimedia applications that needs more investigation and optimization is Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Simulation tools are essential to test existing network technologies and develop new ones. They are effectively used for network analysis and solving design and optimization problems. The focus of this thesis is an extensive simulation study to evaluate the achieved Quality of Service (QoS) support by VoIP traffic under different network topologies, traffic profiles, codecs and queuing mechanisms. To this end, firstly we performed a comparative evaluation of network simulators. Accordingly, we selected ns-2 as our simulation tool because of its wide library of network components and traffic types and its open source facilities. Next, we defined a number of different scenarios guided by previous works in the literature. We conducted a set of simulation experiments with ns-2 and evaluated the VoIP performance parameters such as delay, jitter and packet loss ratio under these scenarios. s.
