Özet:

Effective use and performance enhancement of the renewable energy systems are becoming increasingly important as climate change is widely recognized as one of the most crucial problems for the Earth. Turkey, a country within the solar belt, has an abundance of solar energy potential. Economical, environmental and physical investigations are needed to ensure effective utilization of this potential. In this thesis, using the meteorological parameters of the Central Anatolia and parameters of photovoltaic (PV) modules, a thermal analysis is carried out. The aim of the thermal analysis is to accurately estimate the temperatures and performances of the modules to be able to determine the feasibility of the solar PV systems The thermal model uses the geographic location information, PV module/system parameters, and meteorological data including insolation, wind speed and direction, ambient temperature and dew point temperatures as inputs. In this thesis, the transient behavior of the weather along with wind direction, which is often neglected in similar studies, are taken into consideration. The model was run for a one-year interval and the results verified against measured outdoor performance data of a photovoltaic (PV) module. The thermal model was shown to accurately estimate hourly electrical output of the PV module with a root mean square deviation of 3.08 W/m2 and PV module temperature with a root mean square deviation of 2.43ºC.
