Abstract:Chemical heat pumps are valuable alternatives to conventional heat pumps when the aim is re-utilizing waste energy that is created from natural or industrial sources. In this study, kinetic data of an activated carbon – ethanol adsorption reactor is modeled and properly implemented into COMSOL Multiphysics software, and the geometry is modified for higher rate of heat transfer with the aim of gaining more performance from the system. On top of that, various cycle times are studied for gaining optimal cooling power from designed reactor bed. The results showed that, providing better heat transfer domain to designed systems drastically increased the efficiency of the bed and although more vapor is adsorbed by extended time period, cooling power value did not expand linearly due to increased operation time.
